I snapped this lizard at the base of Enchanted Rock. He is called a "Crevice Spiny Lizard," and he had found the perfect crevice. Perhaps because of his size he was very complacent. Some would call him apathetic (he doesn't vote and has never marched in an anti-war protest) but at the same time his laid-backness made him a fun animal to visit. We smoked a hooka together and talked about music.

This lizard reminds me of JJ Cale.
The problem with giant lizard photos is capturing their mighty scale. I have some photos of the giant lizards that haunt the former hilltop fortress of Anastacio Somoza, but without anything around to give them scale they lose a lot of their grandeur.

Rodrigo, thanks for the input! I will be sure to check it out. Is it about animals? I have to agree with anonymous, I was almost going to put in an addendum tom my post. When I took the picture I thought that the trees in the background would give the viewer some sense of how hugmongoid this lizard really was. But after looking at the photo I see that I messed up again. All I can say is trust me, it was REALLY BIG! And yes, it was also a lot like chillin' with JJ Cale.
What I'm really impressed with, is that you notice all these animals around you, and happen to have your camera with you. I'm generally oblivious to my surroundings, and even when I notice something cool, I rarely have a camera on hand.
I did notice this massive spider outside my front door working like crazy to wrap up a bug that had been snared in her fabulous web (wich has been destroyed four times now by the rains, but by the next day she has another huge web up - about 2 feet across). I should carry my camera around.
No one said it was easy. I have to be ever vigilent if I am to meet people's need for daily animal photography. Lately I have looked like an eternal tourist, bringing my camera with me even if I go to the 7-11 for beer. The embarrassment this causes my friends and family is considerable, but its better than the alternative. How would I live if I stumbled upon a Mountain Lion or a Yeti and didn't have my camera? More importantly, would you, my loyal viewers, ever forgive me?
