The Smallest Toad in the World!

Sometimes the animal world throws you a curve ball. It happened to me the other day while I was traipsing through the woods. I was in the market for a large animal to counter-balance some of the insects and smaller creatures we have been seeing lately. Instead I met this little guy. His size protects him from many predators. Fortunately I have the eyes of an eagle (literally.)

Large Beetle

I ran into this guy walking down Chicon street. It was one of those slightly awkward moments when you find yourself walking next to someone at exactly the same pace and so its like you're walking together even though you don't actually know eachother. At first I was worried he thought I was trying to pick him up or something. Eventually we got to talking and he let me take a portrait. I used my hand as a reference but, in case you didn't know, I have the biggest hands in the world. Also, I had been grubbing around in the dirt in search of animalitos, so the fingernails are a bit dirty.

The World's Biggest Lizard

I snapped this lizard at the base of Enchanted Rock. He is called a "Crevice Spiny Lizard," and he had found the perfect crevice. Perhaps because of his size he was very complacent. Some would call him apathetic (he doesn't vote and has never marched in an anti-war protest) but at the same time his laid-backness made him a fun animal to visit. We smoked a hooka together and talked about music.
