An animal doesn't have to be alive to be cool to hang with! Here is my collection of fossils that I have personally found along Shoal Creek off Lamar Street. I think the snail-like ones are called ammonites. The others look like Oysters. The reason there are so many ammonite fossils is this: after the animal died it fell to the sea bottom and the non-shell part of it decomposed. That decomposition somehow caused a mineral buildup that was responsible for petrification. At least thats what it says in another part of the internet, so I hope that part of the internet was right or we're all screwed!
ADDED BONUS! If you think fossils are boring I've strategically placed a few other things in this pic for your amusement. As always CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO ENLARGE.
