Mercury Hall

I ran across this little fellow while surveying the grounds at the Mercury Hall. He was contemplating the beauty of a late-summer blossom.

Iguana

I want anyone who has ever eaten an iguana to comment on this picture. If no one comments, that means no one has ever eaten an iguana.

Karma Cameleon

They are slow and pensive creatures. Their eyes are covered in a thick hide. This one seems to have baby hands. It was underwhelming visiting this Cameleon in the Shed Aquarium, that is until he broke into a sweet falsetto and sang about how love would be easy if my colors were like his dreams. Red Gold and Green, Red Gold and Green.

Eagle Pass2

Well I'm here in an Eagle Pass TX motel room around nine O'clock on a Friday night about a twenty minute walk from the Mexican border. I had the opportunity to hit up Piedras Negras MX with a nice Priest I was interviewing but I've been up since four in the morning, done three other interviews today, and drove four hours to get here. I called it a night. Basically I was worried that due the cumulative exhaustion of today and the last few nights I'd lose my shit in front of a priest in a foreign city.

However, upon returning to my motel room I realized that that would actually have been a pretty funny story, and would have been fine anyway. For me, I suppose, it's a long way to "Gonzo." Now its nine thirty and I find myself at a loss for things to do other than sip (well, maybe not sip) miller light and write to an adoring public. There are worse fates.

Gonzo always was my favorite Muppet.

Did you know the "Nacho" was invented at the "El Moderno" restaurant by a chef named "Nacho" in Piedras Negras, "Coahuila?" I didn't, until "tonight."

OK, ENOUGH! So here's the deal. I just posted it in response to Dano's contribution to my SAFARI! pictures but I want to make it official with its own blog entry and everything. From now on when I post a "WTF" post and you determine the type of animal I will either snail mail or email you an original unpublished animal shot DIRECT TO YOU!!!! I will also be sending out these LIMITED EDITION shots to anyone who creates artistry with one of my photos like Dano did. ITS ABOUT PARTICIPATION PEOPLE! This new program will be in place until I inform you otherwise.

Oh yeah, heres a picture of a common Gecko (not Gerty).

I figured this post was called Eagle Pass so.... only a Gecko could really do it justice. Please enjoy responsibly!

WTF Part III

This phallic little fellow resides in an aquarium. I was so overwhelmed by his pretty coat that I forgot to check the name tag posted next to his home. I'm dying to find out what kind of lizard this really is, if it is, indeed, real. Anybody got a guess?

A Little Lizard and a Skull

I believe this is an opossum skull. My lizard friend is peeking over the rock to investigate. I think this is a good omen for the weekend!

A Joe Cool Lizard

Some of you may not know this, but I quit smoking cigs a couple months ago. Its been pretty good so far, but every now and again I still get the cravings. For example, it was really hard not to bum a one from this Texas Whip-Tail here. We were having cocktails and he was basically chain smoking. He smoked with real relish, dragging deep and playing with smoke as it escaped his nose and Lizard lips. He smoked like every cigarette was his first butt of the day, and the way he smoked told me he knew life was meant to be enjoyed. Still, I stayed strong. I had one too many cocktails maybe, but no cigs.

He Couldn't Hide... From the World

Long ago he left the city to meditate on the Buddha and discover the mystical inner truths of his scaly existence. After years of effort he came to understand the beauty of all things and became unbothered by the cycle of dharma that binds us to earthly miseries. Earlier last month I busted onto his scene to ask if he wanted to party. He tried to hide out in his cave but I still managed to crawl inside and learn his esoteric wisdom.

The World's Biggest Lizard

I snapped this lizard at the base of Enchanted Rock. He is called a "Crevice Spiny Lizard," and he had found the perfect crevice. Perhaps because of his size he was very complacent. Some would call him apathetic (he doesn't vote and has never marched in an anti-war protest) but at the same time his laid-backness made him a fun animal to visit. We smoked a hooka together and talked about music.

Texas Spiny Lizards

I want to give a shout out to all of you who are tuning in. Yesterday I had hits from all different parts of the world. Closer to home I've been getting some neat suggestions for places to look, including a spot where a family of foxes live. To show my gratitude I am going to post an especially kick-ass picture this Wednesday, the 4th of July. Do tune in.
Its Sunday and Im lazy. These are Texas Spiny Lizards. If they were ten thousand times bigger we would call them dinosaurs.

Animal Rescue

This is a picture of "Gerty" the House Gecko. I rescued Gerty from my brother's two dogs, who were roughhousing with it in the back yard. The little scamp was pleased as punch not to have been torn apart by the two canines. Animal rescue is part of what this blog is all about!
