Jeany was digging for clams on the Cape when she came across this grody looking beach worm. Animal? Insect? Vegetable? I have no idea, but Mike G said that he used to use them for bait, and that they can actually bite. Nasty.

I might be fabricating this memory, but I think I recall those things from my own seaside childhood. They aren't vegetables, they bite HARD.
That's a clam worm! They do have a nasty bite, but are excellent bait.
Look at Ginny with the big brains. Now if you could just identify the camping caterpillar.
What caterpillar? Give us a link!

We saw this camping at Lost Maples last weekend. I'm pretty sure the species is Heterocampa umbrata.
