A PHOTO "WEB LOG" OF ANIMALS I HAVE KNOWN AND SOME I HAVE LOVED.
A Mysterious Beast at the Heart of the Forest
I was returning from Enchanted Rock when I spotted a mighty stag in this clearing. Great power was present, swirling around this creature bathed in light. Saint Eustace was not the first man visited by this mystical beast. Since long before the time of Attila the Hun theStag has been with us.
The mysterious beast made me think of my favorite German webcam which I used to check regularly several years ago: it pointed at a wild boar den in the Black Forest. Most of the time I'd look and all I'd see was dirt and trees but sometimes I'd see a boar or two rooting around, and what was so exciting was the boar was rooting around right now in Germany. So the Beast of the Forest reminded me of that, and Miranda and I checked it out and it still exists (http://www.wildtiere-live.de/de/), this time with much footage of stags, relatives of the BoF! But not speaking German we didn't find working live video, but instead found archived video highlights such as of my old friends the pigs as well as photos of stags and a beast that we think is a sheep. It was so good to see them again. We heard German forest birds over the video. Wildlife voyeurism is thrilllllllling.
Speaking of ungulates, last night as we were falling asleep I told Miranda, "I hope I dream about an animal tonight so I can post it on the Creature Comforts blog." Then Lord Sleep took me and before I knew it Kyle and I were getting into a car and lo and behold a moose tried to get in with us! I was sitting in the back seat and the moose pushed its head in after me - which I'll tell you filled up almost the entire car - and then it ventured one foot in as well, stepping right over my legs, and it took all my might and emotional assertiveness to push that big animal back out into the wild. Because I was scared it would crush me but also it felt sweet in that mute animal way, like a dog.
An interesting animal story that made me think of this one... Another regular contributer to these comments was once driving with a mutual friend through the back roads of Western Mass. The mutual friend was a "Vegan" and, unfortunately, the car ran straight into a very large deer. This deer hit the windshield with force and splayed its dying tongue against the glass in front of our vegan friend. Imagine the plight of a meat hating vegan when confronted head on by such a sight. Anyway, I heard neither of the two men were ever the same. And on top of that the deer was totally dead.
Welcome to my new photo blog! I am hoping to use this outlet to explore a side of myself that many of you may not be familiar with. I am an AMATEUR NATURALIST. In the last few years I have come across many different fascinating animal species and taken some compelling photos. Please let me share my experiences with you.

Josh, This is a fantastic link you have provided us. Thank you for sharing it with the "CC" Community.
