Welcome to my new photo blog! I am hoping to use this outlet to explore a side of myself that many of you may not be familiar with. I am an AMATEUR NATURALIST. In the last few years I have come across many different fascinating animal species and taken some compelling photos. Please let me share my experiences with you.

An interesting side note: The "U" in the word "creature" perfectly frames a Grackle. The bird, closely related to the common crow, arrived in Central Texas a few decades ago from south of the border. It is considered either a noisy pest or a calculating and sadistic killing machine depending on who you ask. Watch for its striking metallic blue color. The Grackle can be taught to speak!

Hey Sara! DO you believe in Mountain Lions in New England?

I have seen mountain lions in Goshen, and I am not on any medications. At least not when I saw it. (I was only 8)

Kyle! Your insight is essential to the understanding of this phenomenon. My own mother has also spotted this as yet unofficial presence in our midst. P.S. How the fuck are things?

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a recovery plan:

for the Eastern Cougar, sadly they fear that the population left might be so inbred as not to be able to define it as a subspecies (there's nothing sadder than the thought of an inbred cougar)

Things have been really fuckin good. My wife and I have a daughter now, which still blows my mind. And you? How is Texas? How's Tom?

I hope you are not offended by this, but due to the rise of crazy man versus animal stories in the news, I have decided to start my own blog. A blog about animals, in an entirely different light....

There are mountain lions in Kansas though "officials" say there is no evidence. My mom saw one on the KU campus and everybody thought she was crazy. Then a jogger in Lawrence was stalked by a mountain lion for nearly a mile...check it out: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2006/jun/30/runner_reports_seeing_mountain_lion_along_river_le/
